Biography (Taken from the Official Jared Martin Fan Club disbanded in 1987; Rae M. Curtis was the president):
The only child of Charles E. Martin, a cover artist for THE NEW YORKER, and Florence Martin, a housewife and part-time illustrator. Given the choice at the age of ten of whether to take piano lessions or join the local children's theater group, he decided on acting. He was sent away to school in Vermont where he divided his time between all kinds of sports and getting into as many plays as he could. After graduation, he went on to Columbia University where once more a choice was put before him, sports or acting. Again he went for the acting. He spent his years there doing as many plays as possible and making experimental films with friends.

After graduation he has second thoughts about his chosen profession and decided to become a newspaperman. He took on a job for the NEW YORK TIMES writing anonymous book reviews for the Sunday paper. It wasn't a fulfilling experience and he spent his time helping friends with film projects. Two years later he gave notice and joined a summer stock company at Cape May, New Jersey, as an apprentice. Upon receiving his Actors Equity card, he worked for a Shakespeare company in Boston and one in New York. After encouragement he promptly hopped in his Studebaker (bought for $50) and crossed the country, arriving in Hollywood without friends, contacts, or an agent. After spending 6 months as a dishwasher, he was able to get an agent and his first two roles on television. Before the roles paid off, there were plenty of miscellanous jobs (truck driver, chicken delivery man, bartender, phone salesman, housecleaner, antique cataloguer, etc.). Then the roles began coming in.

An early marriage, during his college years, produced his only child, a son named Christian. Jared married again in April 1979 to a beautiful, talented actress named Carol Vogel, but this marriage also ended in divorce around 1984. After that, he was seen dating actress Caitlin O'Heaney.

For recreation and relaxation Jared plays the guitar, sings, writes songs, collects stamps, jobs, enjoys skiing, and all sports.

As of to date, Jared is devoting his time as creative director for Big Picture Alliance (BPA) in Philadelphia that aids troubled teens by getting them involved with various types of filmworks, i.e., acting, video, etc. BPA was founded in 1994 and has been doing marvelous work with many supporters.
